CM Omar Abdullah Urges Calm in J&K Amid Reports of Iran Supreme Leader’s Death

SRINAGAR March 01 — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has issued a high-level appeal for peace and communal harmony following reports of the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In a statement shared via the Office of the Chief Minister on X (formerly Twitter), Abdullah expressed “deep concern” over the rapidly unfolding geopolitical developments in Iran.

As protests were reported in several areas of the Kashmir Valley, the Chief Minister urged all communities to maintain restraint and avoid any actions that could escalate local tensions.

Reassuring the families of those currently abroad, the Chief Minister confirmed that the Government of Jammu & Kashmir is in constant, “close coordination” with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to prioritize the safety of J&K residents, particularly students, stationed in Iran.

This follows a period of heightened regional volatility, during which the administration has been monitoring the security of its citizens.

The J&K government remains committed to ensuring a smooth line of communication with the central authorities to safeguard all residents during this international crisis.
