CM Omar Abdullah Demands Full Statehood; Slams BJP Over Alleged Land Encroachment and Fund Misuse
JAMMU, February 17, 2026 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah issued a powerful statement today, reaffirming his government’s unwavering commitment to the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister emphasized that his administration will not rest until full statehood is granted, noting that while Union MOS Arjun Ram Meghwal has hinted at “good news” soon, the people are still waiting for concrete action after a year and a half in power.
Abdullah also launched a scathing attack on the BJP, specifically targeting Vikram Randhawa for allegedly encroaching on government land and accusing him of trying to deflect attention with political noise.
He further criticized Ghulam Ali Khatana, alleging that the leader spends 90% of his funds in Uttar Pradesh while continuing to enjoy the administrative benefits and liabilities of Jammu and Kashmir, labeling the BJP’s tactics as a pattern of “deceit and lies.”Turning to development and administrative issues, the Chief Minister welcomed the reopening of 11 new tourist destinations, a move he noted was coordinated with the Union Home Ministry to fulfill long-standing public demands.
On the sensitive issue of daily wagers, Abdullah expressed frustration over recent street protests, questioning why workers are being provoked when a formal policy framework was already promised during the Assembly session.
He issued a firm but empathetic warning, stating that while he is committed to resolving their grievances through dialogue he will not be swayed by threats or forced pressure.
Urging patience, the CM assured the daily wagers that their issues would be resolved if they maintained trust in the current government’s policy-making process.
