CM Omar Abdullah Boosts J&K Tourism: Unveils 2026 Calendars, New Digital Portal, and Skiing Courses
Jammu | January 06, 2026: In a major push to elevate the Union Territory’s global travel profile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today launched a series of high-impact tourism initiatives at the Civil Secretariat.
The Chief Minister officially unveiled the 2026 Tourism and Jammu & Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) calendars, which serve as visual showcases of the region’s breathtaking landscapes and expanding infrastructure. Emphasizing that these publications are “visual narratives” of J&K’s natural beauty, the Chief Minister noted that such promotional tools are vital for attracting domestic and international travelers to the “Crown of India.”
A New Era for Digital Tourism in Kashmir:- A highlight of the event was the launch of the official Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir website. This modern, single-window digital platform is designed to streamline information for travelers, offering a centralized hub for events, destination guides, and digital archives.
By integrating links to Jammu Tourism, JKTDC, and JKCCC, the portal ensures that stakeholders and tourists can access all essential services—from hotel bookings to cable car schedules—in one place.
Chief Minister Abdullah highlighted that a “dynamic digital presence” is non-negotiable for modern outreach and effective global tourism marketing.
Fostering Adventure: Skiing Courses LaunchedFurthering the UT’s reputation as a premier winter sports destination, the Chief Minister inaugurated Integrated Skiing Courses at the world-renowned slopes of Gulmarg and Sonamarg. The program kicks off with two initial batches comprising 57 young trainees aged 12 to 18. This 14-day basic course is part of a broader strategy to nurture local talent and promote adventure tourism during the winter months.
The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, and senior tourism officials, signaling a unified departmental effort to drive economic growth through a revitalized tourism sector.
