Citizens Army Celebrates 76th Raising Day

Jammu: 11 October :- The Territorial Army, also known as Citizens Army celebrated its 76th Raising Day on 09 Oct 2025. The Territorial Army was raised by formalizing the Territorial Army Act, passed by the Parliament of India in 1948 and the first Annual Training Camps of the Terriers was inaugurated by Shri C Rajagopalachari first Governor General of Independent India on 09 Oct 1948 at Kolkata and since than this day is celebrated as the Territorial Army Day. Territorial Army with its footprint through the length and breadth of the country is a Force Multiplier for the Regular Army and has participated not only in 1962, 1965 and 1971 Operation, but have also taken part in Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka, Operation Rakshak in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, Operation Rhino and Operation Bajrang and the most recent Operation Sindoor.
Jammu & Kashmir hosts large number of Territorial Army Units which have contributed significantly in restoring peace and confidence of people. Territorial Army Units raised on the concept of ‘’ Sons of Soil’’, while ensuring social security have also played significant role in winning Hearts and Mind of locals and towards Nation Building.
Today, we pay homage to our fallen heroes and extend greetings to all veterans and families of Territorial Army. General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command complimented all members of the Territorial Army for their unflinching dedication and professionalism and wished them continued success.
