CHENNAI | February 9, 2026In a major breakthrough against the illegal movement of cash, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Chennai Airport detected undeclared Indian currency totaling ₹55,90,000 on February 7, 2026.
The recovery was made during a routine Pre-Embarkation Security Check (PESC) when alert personnel noticed suspicious items in the hand baggage of three passengers. The individuals were scheduled to board a domestic flight to Varanasi before being intercepted by the airport’s security wing.
The detection was a result of meticulous profiling and professional vigilance by the CISF screening team. Upon discovering the massive stash of cash, the security officials immediately notified the Income Tax Department to verify the source and legitimacy of the funds.
The recovery underscores the heightened security measures in place at major Indian airports to curb financial irregularities and the transport of unaccounted wealth.Following the interception, the three passengers and the seized currency were handed over to Income Tax officials for further investigation and necessary legal action.
