CISF Seizes Foreign Currency Worth ₹2.75 Crore at Chennai Airport

CHENNAI, Feb 3, 2026 — Vigilant Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel successfully thwarted a major smuggling attempt at Chennai International Airport, seizing undeclared foreign currency valued at approximately ₹2.75 crore.

The incident occurred during a routine security screening of hand baggage at the international departure terminal. CISF officials intercepted a passenger after discovering a high-value cache of U.S. Dollars (USD) and Euros (EUR) concealed within their luggage.

The passenger, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was unable to provide valid documentation for the significant amount of cash.Following the discovery, CISF officials immediately alerted Customs authorities.

After a thorough preliminary examination, the passenger and the confiscated currency were handed over to the Customs department for further investigation and legal proceedings under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
