Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra Meets Multiple Delegations in Kargil to Address Public Grievances

KARGIL, JANUARY 11, 2026 — In a major outreach initiative, the new Chief Secretary of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra (IAS), held a series of high-level consultative meetings with diverse delegations in Kargil to discuss infrastructure, social welfare, and regional development.

Accompanied by Administrative Secretaries Bhanu Prabha and Moses Kunzang, as well as SSP Kargil Nitin Yadav, the Chief Secretary engaged with religious, social, and trade organizations, including the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT), Jamiatul Ulema Isna Ashriya (JUIAK), and the Buddhist Association.

These groups raised critical issues ranging from the allotment of land for educational institutions and the preservation of cultural heritage to the operationalization of the newly declared Sham district.

The discussions underscored a shared commitment between the UT administration and civil society to foster inclusive growth and maintain social harmony across the region.Key sectors such as tourism, sports, and transport dominated the dialogue, with the All Kargil Travel Trade Association (AKTTA) and the Olympic Association of Kargil advocating for strategic border tourism in Mushko Valley and the development of winter sports infrastructure, including all-weather ice hockey rinks.

Transport unions raised concerns regarding permit fees and taxation concessions, while the Merchant Association highlighted the urgent need for traffic management and beautification in Kargil’s Old Bazaar. Healthcare issues were also at the forefront, with specific requests for gynaecologists in Drass and salary enhancements for NHM nursing staff.

Additionally, local village committees from Hardass and Shargole presented proposals for lift irrigation schemes and a trauma hospital to address frequent road accidents, respectively.The Chief Secretary also addressed unique community concerns, including a plea from the Sikh Prabandhak Committee regarding job reservations for the minority community and requests from the Bar Association for a consumer court.

Village representatives from Tumail sought a final resolution to land allotment issues stemming from a 1987 landslide dislocation. Throughout the sessions, Chief Secretary Kundra maintained a proactive stance, directing immediate administrative reviews for technical proposals—such as the Shargole airport land identification—and assuring all stakeholders that the administration remains dedicated to timely, effective interventions.

By prioritizing grassroots feedback on everything from archery coaching to horticulture service matters, the visit reinforced the government’s focus on transparency and public service delivery in Ladakh.
