Chief Minister visits Kishtwar cloudburst-affected areas, announces relief for victims

Kishtwar 16th August :- In a lightning-fast reaction to the devastating cloudburst that hit Chasoti village of Kishtwar district, Omar Abdullah Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir visited the disaster-stricken areas today to evaluate the destruction and console the mourning families.

Showing deep condolence over the loss of lives and massive destruction, the Chief Minister assured the victims that the government is fully with them in this hour of hardship.During his visit, the Chief Minister declared instant financial support from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to give relief to the affected families.

The compensation comprises ₹2 lakh to the families of each of the deceased, ₹1 lakh to severely injured people, and ₹50,000 for minor injuries. Besides this, funds for property loss was also announced, with ₹1 lakh reserved for completely destroyed buildings, ₹50,000 for those that were severely destroyed, and ₹25,000 for partially destroyed buildings and houses.

The Chief Minister also asked officials to speed up the repair of destroyed infrastructure, such as roads, power, and water supply, to restore normalcy in the region at the earliest. He asserted the requirement for cooperation between disaster relief teams and local administration to offer immediate aid to the affected people.The cloudburst, which activated flash floods and landslides, resulted in severe destruction of houses, agricultural fields, and public infrastructure. This gesture of solidarity and prompt assistance has provided some relief to the embattled families, as the government embarks on efforts to reconstruct the ravaged areas.
