Chhamb Border Development: Satish Sharma Kicks Off ₹98.60 Lakh Beautification Project in Samwan

Jammu January 16, 2026 — Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and Transport, Satish Sharma, officially laid the foundation stone today for a major beautification and infrastructure project at the Samwan, Thanger–Kachrial panchayat in the Chhamb Constituency.

Executed by the Tourism Department at an estimated cost of ₹98.60 lakh, the initiative is designed to transform this border belt into a vibrant public recreational space. The Minister emphasized that the project is a testament to the government’s commitment to “inclusive and balanced development,” specifically targeting rural and border areas to restore local confidence and create fresh economic opportunities through tourism.

The comprehensive development plan includes a wide range of civic and aesthetic upgrades to ensure the site is both functional and welcoming. Key features of the project include the construction of a six-foot-wide pedestrian footpath with durable paver blocks, the installation of five decorative gazebos, and high-quality steel benches for public use.

To ensure safety and clear demarcation, the area will be enclosed with chain-link fencing, while two grand entrance gates will be erected to regulate access. The project also addresses essential sanitation needs with the construction of a dedicated toilet complex and extensive land development work to clear wild growth and level the terrain.

During the ceremony, Satish Sharma highlighted that developing such infrastructure in border regions is vital for promoting community interaction and providing a dignified space for families and youth. He noted that the Tourism Department is actively working to identify “off-beat” destinations to ensure that the economic benefits of tourism reach the grassroots level across Jammu and Kashmir.

Attended by senior officials from the Tourism and PWD (R&B) departments, the event concluded with the Minister’s assurance that the project would be completed within a strict timeline, maintaining high transparency and quality standards.
