Chandigarh Grenade Attack: Punjab Police Arrest Key Suspects, Mastermind Network Exposed

CHANDIGARH April 05,2026 :- In a major breakthrough for regional security, the Counter Intelligence wing of the Punjab Police, working in tandem with Chandigarh and Haryana law enforcement, has officially “cracked” the Chandigarh grenade attack case following the arrest of the two primary suspects.

This latest operation brings the total number of individuals in custody to seven, effectively neutralizing the immediate cell responsible for the strike. The investigation has pulled back the curtain on a sophisticated, cross-border recruitment strategy.

Preliminary findings indicate that one of the lead accused, Gurtej Singh, was radicalized or recruited approximately six months ago after connecting with a foreign-based handler through a social media platform.

The plot was reportedly orchestrated by high-level handlers identified as Baljot Singh (alias Jot) based in Portugal and Harjeet Singh (alias Laadi) based in Germany.

Under the direct guidance of these ISI-backed operatives, the attackers were promised a payment of ₹2 lakh to carry out the assault. Evidence suggests the group was meticulous in their preparation, conducting detailed reconnaissance (recce) of the target site before executing the attack.

With all seven suspects now behind bars, authorities are focusing on dismantling the digital and financial trails used by their overseas handlers to prevent future radicalization efforts.
