CBI Nabs Army Hawaldar and Accomplice in Rs 50,000 Bribery Trap in Ranchi
Ranchi, January 31, 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully apprehended an Army Hawaldar and a private individual in Ranchi, Jharkhand, for their involvement in a bribery case. The Hawaldar, stationed at the Defence Land NOC, R&O, FLT Unit, was caught red-handed alongside his accomplice while accepting an installment of Rs. 50,000 from a complainant.

The case originated from an investigation launched on January 30, 2026, following allegations that the accused official had demanded a staggering bribe of Rs. 5,00,000. This demand was made in exchange for allowing the complainant to resume and complete construction work on a piece of land claimed to be Army property. According to the investigation, the Hawaldar had already accepted an initial payment of Rs. 50,000 on January 13, 2026, before demanding further “undue advantages” in installments.
Following the agreement to accept a second installment of Rs. 50,000, the CBI laid a strategic trap. Both the Hawaldar and the private person were intercepted during the transaction. In the aftermath of the arrests, the CBI conducted searches at the residential premises of the accused individuals to gather further evidence. The agency has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the corruption.
