CBI Court Sentences Woman to Two Years’ Rigorous Imprisonment in Disproportionate Assets Case

Ahmedabad March 30, 2026:-The Special CBI Court in Ahmedabad has convicted and sentenced Jasodaben Rameshbhai Vadadia to two years of rigorous imprisonment in a high-profile Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.

Jasodaben, the wife of late Ramesh Rameshbhai Fulchand Vadadia—who served as an Income Tax Officer in Gandhinagar—was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 20,000.

The court found her guilty of abetting her husband in the illegal accumulation of wealth that far exceeded their documented legal earnings. The case dates back to June 30, 2007, when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) first registered an FIR against the then Income Tax Officer, Ramesh Fulchand Vadadia.

The initial allegations suggested that during the period between January 2002 and April 2007, the accused had amassed assets worth Rs. 29,49,977, which was approximately 247% over their known sources of income.

Following a comprehensive investigation, the CBI filed a formal chargesheet on December 24, 2008, concluding that the couple possessed disproportionate assets totaling Rs. 25,46,398, calculated to be 133.98% above their legitimate financial means.

The legal proceedings took a turn when the primary accused, Ramesh Fulchand Vadadia, passed away during the course of the trial. Consequently, the case against him was abated by the court. However, the trial continued against Jasodaben Rameshbhai Vadadia for her role in the offense.

After reviewing the evidence presented by the CBI, the court upheld the charges of abetment, ruling that she played a significant role in helping her husband acquire the illicit assets. The final judgment marks the conclusion of a nearly two-decade-long investigation and trial.
