CBI Arrests EPFO Regional Commissioner and Assistant in Srinagar Bribery Scandal
SRINAGAR, April 01, 2026 — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two officials from the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) in Srinagar, including a high-ranking Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe.
As Per Press release issued by CBI in which stated that the operation, which took place in the Batmaloo area of the Kashmir Region, resulted in the apprehension of Vinay Kumar (Regional Provident Fund Commissioner) and Amin Sofi (Senior Security Assistant).
The case was formally registered on March 31, 2026, following allegations that the Commissioner demanded a total of Rs 1,50,000 from a complainant to waive a heavy penalty and prevent adverse legal action against the complainant’s school.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a strategic trap on March 31, catching Amin Sofi red-handed while he accepted an initial installment of Rs 50,000 on behalf of his superior. Commissioner Vinay Kumar was subsequently arrested after investigators confirmed his involvement in the illicit transaction orchestrated through his subordinate.
As further investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the scheme, the CBI has issued a public appeal urging citizens in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh to report any instances of corruption by government employees to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in Srinagar via their dedicated hotline or email.
