NEW DELHI, February 11, 2026 — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Peon-cum-Assistant Meter Reader from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Zone-VI, Seelampur, along with a private individual in connection with a bribery case. The arrests follow a complaint registered on February 8, 2026, alleging that the public servant demanded a total bribe of Rs 12,000 from a resident.
The illegal gratification was reportedly sought in exchange for rectifying and waiving off a pending water bill for the complainant’s house. According to investigators, the accused had already accepted an initial installment of Rs 5,500 on February 3, 2026, and was pressuring the complainant for the remaining Rs 6,500 to settle the matter.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a strategic trap on February 9, 2026, resulting in the red-handed capture of both the Delhi Jal Board employee and the private person while they were demanding and accepting the balance bribe amount. Following the successful operation, both individuals were taken into custody, and a formal investigation is currently underway to uncover further details of the transaction.
The CBI has reiterated its commitment to tackling corruption within public services and encourages citizens to report similar demands for bribes through their official anti-corruption hotlines or by visiting their New Delhi office at the CGO Complex.
