KATHUA, AUGUST 18: The authorities have halted the recharge of the Main Ravi Canal in view of damage caused due to the flooding triggered by cloudburst at Jodh Ghatti.“The Main Ravi Canal cannot currently be recharged due to extensive damage near RD 26204m due to the recent cloudburst that struck at Jodh Ghatti. The unprecedented rainfall caused severe structural issues to the canal, making water flow and recharge operations unsafe and technically un-viable at this time. The breach at RD 26204m of MRC resulted in deposition of silt/Mulba in the Canal and two major Canal syphons namely Janglote syphon at RD 26204m and Kathera syphon at RD 27285m have been completely choked. Our technical teams have assessed the site and confirmed that significant repair and restoration work is required before any recharge can be attempted. The safety of nearby communities and the integrity of the infrastructure remain our top priorities. We request the public’s patience and cooperation during this time. Further updates will be shared as the situation progresses, “a communiqué issued by Executive Engineer RCC Upper Division Kathua stated.
