BRO Project Sampark Restores Kishtwar-Sansari Road Connectivity Amid Heavy Snowfall

KISHTWAR, Jan 31, 2026: Demonstrating exceptional resilience in extreme high-altitude conditions, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) has successfully restored traffic on the vital 112 km Kishtwar-Sansari road, re-establishing a critical link between Jammu & Kashmir’s Chenab Valley and Himachal Pradesh.

The 118 Road Construction Company (RCC) under Project Sampark overcame a relentless week of winter weather, including heavy snow accumulations of up to five feet between January 22 and 27 that repeatedly buried the road axis at elevations reaching 8,759 feet.

Despite multiple setbacks from fresh snowfall, BRO teams launched an intensive 72-hour clearance operation starting January 28, successfully piercing through 3.5 feet of fresh snow to reopen the interstate corridor by January 30.

This achievement is of immense strategic and humanitarian importance, as the route serves as a primary lifeline for the Lahaul-Spiti and Chenab regions, facilitating the transport of essential commodities and ensuring remote mountain communities maintain access to emergency healthcare and education services.
