BRO Project Sampark Rescues Three Stranded Civilians After Heroic 11km Trek Through Heavy Snow in Mahore
MAHORE, J&K — January 24, 2026:- In a daring display of grit and determination, personnel from Project Sampark of the Border Roads Organization (BRO), in close coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and civil administration, successfully rescued three civilians stranded in the Mahore area of Reasi District.
The individuals had been trapped since the early hours of January 22, 2026, after sudden and relentless snowfall cut off all access routes. Faced with treacherous conditions and a total communication blackout in the high-altitude terrain, the rescue team demonstrated the BRO’s core motto, “We will either find a way or make one,” to ensure no lives were lost to the freezing elements.
The rescue operation was a feat of physical endurance, as the team was forced to navigate on foot through nearly four feet of fresh snow. Covering a grueling 11-kilometer stretch in sub-zero temperatures, the rescuers eventually reached the stranded trio, providing immediate medical assistance and essential supplies.
Once stabilized, the civilians were safely escorted back through the snow-choked passes to a secure location. The successful mission has been widely praised by the local community as a testament to the seamless synergy between the BRO and local administrative bodies during natural disasters. While the civilians are now out of danger, the battle against the elements continues.
Project Sampark has deployed heavy machinery and specialized snow-cutters to clear the vital transit corridors in the Mahore sector. Snow clearance operations are currently in progress on a war footing to restore connectivity to isolated villages.
Authorities have reiterated their warning for residents to avoid high-risk zones, as the thick snowpack remains unstable and the threat of fresh avalanches persists across the mountainous district.
