SHOPIAN, Jan 29, 2026 — Following heavy snowfall in the higher reaches, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has launched a high-intensity snow clearance operation on the historic Mughal Road to restore vital vehicular connectivity between Shopian and the Poonch-Rajouri districts.
Utilizing advanced snow-cutting machinery and a specialized workforce, the BRO has successfully cleared the stretch up to Dubjan Bridge, moving uphill from Heerpora toward the formidable Pir Ki Gali pass.
Despite the challenging terrain and freezing temperatures, officials noted that the current window of favorable weather has allowed teams to work at a rapid pace. While the road had previously been maintained up to Heerpora, this latest push aims to penetrate deep into the snow-clogged high-altitude sections to ensure the safe and timely resumption of traffic on this critical alternative highway.
