BJP Slams Politicization of Vande Mataram; Dr. Abhijeet Jasrotia Asserts Patriotism as the Foundation of Every Religion
JAMMU, JANUARY 02, 2026 — Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, J&K BJP Spokesperson Dr. Abhijeet Singh Jasrotia strongly condemned recent attempts to communalize the singing of Vande Mataram, asserting that patriotism is the fundamental base of every religion.
Accompanied by Media Incharge Dr. Pardeep Mahotra and OBC Morcha Seh-Prabhari Sunil Prajapati, Jasrotia stated that Vande Mataram is “above religion and below none,” and warned that opposing the national song is equivalent to opposing the very soul of India and the history of its freedom struggle.
He criticized groups attempting to portray national pride as being in conflict with religious beliefs, noting that such a mindset only serves to weaken the spirit of the nation.Dr. Jasrotia reminded the public that the historic struggle against British imperialism was a collective effort where Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and others stood united under the slogan of Vande Mataram.
He highlighted the ultimate sacrifices of legendary Muslim freedom fighters like Shaheed Ashfaq Ullah Khan and Abdul Qadir, who embraced martyrdom while chanting these iconic words. Recalling the Hindu-Muslim unity symbolized by the collaboration of Bismil Azimabadi and Ram Prasad Bismil, Jasrotia argued that those promoting radical narratives today are disrespecting the legacy of ancestors who prioritized the motherland over sectarian divisions.
The BJP spokesperson further claimed that those who stayed in India during the Partition consciously chose the nation over religion, and that questioning this today reveals a lack of sincerity toward the country. He accused Jawaharlal Nehru of historical appeasement by omitting stanzas of the song to satisfy leaders like Jinnah, while pointing to modern examples of unity, such as the Ladakh Scouts, where Buddhists and Muslims serve together purely out of patriotism.
Concluding the session, Dr. Jasrotia reiterated that Vande Mataram remains a non-negotiable symbol of India’s identity and that the BJP will continue to stand against any efforts to create religious discord over national symbols.
