JAMMU, DECEMBER 24, 2025: In a major push toward a self-reliant India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu & Kashmir organized a grand “Swadeshi Mela” today at Bahu Plaza to promote indigenous manufacturing and empower local artisans.
The event was led by J&K BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma, alongside Union Minister Jitendra Singh, General Secretary Ashok Koul, and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma.
Addressing a large gathering of citizens and party functionaries, Sat Sharma emphasized that “Swadeshi” is a national duty rather than just an economic concept. He asserted that every indigenous product purchased by an Indian household directly strengthens the national economy and fuels the journey toward Viksit Bharat @2047. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for transforming India into a global powerhouse in defense, space, and healthcare through the “Vocal for Local” and “Make in India” initiatives.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh highlighted India’s surging global stature, noting that the world now looks to India for satellite launches, biotechnology, and advanced medicine. He recalled India’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and pointed out that even major global powers are now opting for Indian-built technology, proving that Atmanirbharta is being demonstrated through tangible outcomes rather than mere slogans.
Meanwhile, Ashok Koul spoke on the importance of cultural pride, citing the inclusion of the Dogri language in the Eighth Schedule as a symbol of the BJP’s commitment to local identity. MP Jugal Kishore Sharma further noted that supporting local traders and women-led self-help groups ensures that capital circulates within the domestic market, providing grassroots empowerment. The mela, organized by the Jammu South District team and overseen by Priya Sethi, also featured vibrant folk performances, celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage while reinforcing the message of economic self-reliance.
