Baramulla Wildlife Rescue: Leopardess and Cub to be Released Following Successful Operation in Nowshera

BARAMULLA, January 21, 2026:- In a heartwarming success for wildlife conservation, the Wildlife Department has successfully rescued a leopardess and her cub after they strayed into a water filtration plant in Nowshera village, Baramulla.

The precarious situation began when the young cub accidentally fell into the plant’s premises, leaving both animals trapped and at significant risk. Responding to alerts from local residents, a quick response team—led by Block Officer Raja Shail Khan and coordinated with the Boniyar Police—swung into action.

Through a carefully executed operation that involved tranquilizing the adult leopardess to ensure a safe extraction, the team managed to rescue both animals without any injuries.Following the rescue, the animals were moved to a temporary care facility at the Baramulla headquarters for medical observation.

Abid Ali, the Range Officer of Baramulla, confirmed today that both the mother and cub are in stable condition and are being closely monitored by veterinary experts. Once they receive a final health clearance, the department plans to release them back into a secure forest habitat within the Baramulla region.

Officials are currently identifying a release site that offers a natural prey base and minimal human interference to ensure the duo can safely reunite with nature and thrive in the wild.
