BARAMULLA, J&K | JANUARY 24, 2026 – In a swift and coordinated rescue operation, Baramulla Police successfully facilitated the movement of approximately 1,600 tourists stranded due to heavy snowfall and hazardous road conditions in the Tangmarg Sub-Division.
As the Tangmarg-Gulmarg road became increasingly slippery and life-threatening, police personnel worked alongside the civil magistracy, Mechanical Engineering Department (MED), and CAPF to ensure traveler safety. Under extremely challenging weather conditions, 1,000 visitors were safely guided from Tangmarg to Gulmarg, while another 600 were assisted in the opposite direction toward Srinagar.
To manage the crisis, authorities implemented a strictly regulated one-way corridor system, moving batches of 10 to 12 vehicles alternately to prevent congestion. Only 4×4 SUVs equipped with mandatory anti-skid chains were permitted to navigate the snow-covered stretches to ensure maximum stability. Police officials have issued a stern advisory warning of the formation of “black ice” in the coming days, urging travelers to avoid unnecessary trips and strictly adhere to safety norms.
The Baramulla Police, in coordination with Srinagar and Budgam counterparts, remain on high alert, providing 24/7 assistance to ensure the safety of all visitors in the valley.
