Bandipora Tragedy: 10 Injured After House Collapses During Condolence Meet

BANDIPORA January 28, 2026 :-A somber gathering turned into a scene of chaos and panic in Chandergeer village, located in the Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, when a double-storied residential house suddenly collapsed. The incident occurred while a large crowd of mourners had assembled to offer condolences for the house owner, Ghulam Mohammad Dar.

Dar, a retired member of the Fire and Emergency Services department, had passed away just a day prior following a period of illness. Local officials believe the structural failure was triggered by the sheer weight of the heavy gathering, which placed excessive load on the building’s framework, causing it to give way without warning.

The collapse resulted in injuries to at least ten individuals, several of whom were women who found themselves trapped beneath the debris before being rescued by locals and emergency responders. Among the injured identified were Sara Begum, Meema Begum, Bilkisa Begum, Raja Begum, and Haleema Begum, all residents of Chandergeer.

Medical authorities have confirmed that five of the victims were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Hajin, while the remaining five were transported to a hospital in Safapora.

Fortunately, all ten victims are currently reported to be in stable condition. The Police have taken cognizance of the incident and launched a formal investigation to determine the exact structural vulnerabilities that led to the collapse.
