AWANTIPORA, Jan 29, 2026 — As part of an ongoing intensified crackdown on narcotics, the Awantipora Police successfully apprehended a drug peddler and recovered a variety of contraband substances during a specialized operation in the Chersoo area.
A vigilant police team from the Toll Plaza Post intercepted a suspicious individual, identified as Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shaksaz, a resident of Malpora Ghat Tokuna, during a routine “naka” (checkpoint) search.
Upon conducting a thorough physical inspection, officers seized 48 grams of a Charas-like substance (in stick form), 40 grams of Charas powder, and 315 grams of Bhung Chura from the suspect’s possession.
Following the recovery, the accused was taken into custody and shifted to the Awantipora Police Station, where a formal case has been registered under FIR No. 28/2026 under relevant sections of the law.
While the investigation remains active to trace the source of the narcotics, local authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to creating a drug-free society and have urged the public to continue sharing information regarding illegal peddling activities to ensure timely legal action.
