Assam Rifles Seizes ₹39 Crore Yaba Tablets in Cachar; Major Narcotics Smuggling Bid Foiled
CACHAR, JANUARY 22, 2026: In one of the most significant narcotics seizures in the region, the Assam Rifles, in a coordinated joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), successfully intercepted a massive consignment of illicit drugs in Assam’s Cachar district.
Acting on specific intelligence, security forces apprehended three individuals, all residents of Tripura, during a late-night operation on National Highway 306. The search led to the recovery of 1,30,000 Yaba tablets, with an estimated market value of approximately ₹39 Crores, hidden within the vehicle used by the smugglers.
This operation marks a major blow to the cross-border narcotics trade that frequently targets the Northeast transit corridors. The Assam Rifles, known as the “Sentinels of the North East,” have consistently spearheaded anti-drug initiatives to dismantle the financial networks of organized crime syndicates. By intercepting this high-value shipment, authorities have prevented a substantial quantity of synthetic stimulants from reaching the black market.
The apprehended individuals and the seized contraband have been handed over to the relevant agencies for further legal proceedings as investigations continue to trace the wider links of this smuggling ring.
