Assam Rifles Promotes Tobacco-Free Living with ‘No Smoking Day’ Initiative in Meluri, Nagaland
MELURI, March 13, 2026 — Advancing the cause of public health in remote border regions, the Assam Rifles organized a comprehensive awareness program to observe ‘No Smoking Day’ at Mokie village in the Meluri subdivision of Nagaland on March 12, 2026.
The initiative was specifically designed to educate the local community on the severe physiological risks of tobacco consumption and to advocate for the adoption of sustainable, healthy lifestyle practices.
The event saw an enthusiastic turnout of 46 civilians, including 12 children, highlighting the force’s commitment to fostering a health-conscious environment among the younger generation and rural residents.
The program moved beyond theoretical warnings, focusing on actionable preventive healthcare at the grassroots level. Following the primary awareness session, the Assam Rifles medical team conducted a basic health check-up for all attendees, providing immediate medical consultations to the villagers.
By addressing the health risks associated with smoking and identifying early indicators of tobacco-related issues, the initiative significantly bolstered community-level resilience against substance abuse.
Such outreach programs continue to strengthen the bond between the “Friends of the Hill People” and the local population, ensuring that essential health education reaches the farthest corners of Nagaland.
