SHILLONG, Jan 20, 2026 — As part of a major outreach initiative under the Civic Action Programme, members of the Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL) from Jiribam, Manipur, reached the picturesque city of Shillong for a high-profile National Integration Tour.

A centerpiece of the visit was a deep and engaging interaction with Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, Director General of Assam Rifles, at the Laitkor Garrison. The session provided a unique platform for the members of JIMPAL—a prominent women’s collective—to share their regional experiences and discuss cultural integration directly with the top leadership of the “Sentinels of the Northeast.”The visit extended beyond formal discussions, as the tour members were given an immersive look into the storied legacy of the force at the Assam Rifles Museum. The exhibition took the visitors through decades of history, showcasing the courage and sacrifices of soldiers who have served in the region.

To foster a sense of warm connection and camaraderie, the interaction was followed by a high tea at the garrison. This initiative by the Assam Rifles aims to strengthen the bond between the security forces and civil society, promoting national unity while celebrating the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Northeast.
