Assam Rifles Honors Fallen Heroes: Solemn Wreath-Laying Ceremony Held in Arunachal Pradesh for 1980 Martyrs

CHANGLANG, March 01, 2026 — Marking a poignant moment of national remembrance, the Changlang Battalion of the Assam Rifles conducted a dignified wreath-laying ceremony in Arunachal Pradesh to honor the supreme sacrifice of three bravehearts who laid down their lives 46 years ago.

The ceremony paid tribute to Naik Man Bahadur Ale, Rifleman Sena Singh, and Rifleman Brahma Das Dogra, who were killed in action on February 29, 1980, during a high-stakes operation in Imphal, Manipur.

Historical records recall that on that fateful day, a patrolling party consisting of one Junior Commissioned Officer and ten other ranks was ambushed near Allahabad Bank in Imphal Town.

Despite the suddenness of the attack, the troops responded with extraordinary courage and tactical determination; however, during the intense firefight, these three soldiers sustained fatal gunshot wounds, ultimately succumbing to their injuries in the highest traditions of military service.

The commemorative event, held with full military honors and deep reverence, served as a powerful reminder of the Assam Rifles’ enduring commitment to its fallen heroes and their families.

By gathering to salute the selfless devotion of Naik Ale, Rfn Singh, and Rfn Dogra, the “Sentinels of the North East” reaffirmed their legacy of bravery and the heavy price paid for regional peace.

The solemn atmosphere in Changlang highlighted the unbreakable bond between the force and its history, ensuring that the valor displayed by these soldiers in 1980 remains etched in the national consciousness as an inspiration for future generations of the Indian Armed Forces.
