Army Soldier Succumbs to Injuries Following Accidental Discharge in Handwara
SRINAGAR, April 6, 2026 — An Indian Army soldier has passed away after sustaining critical injuries from an accidental discharge of his service rifle at a military camp in North Kashmir’s Handwara region.
The soldier, identified as 24-year-old Jaideep, was stationed at an Army camp in the Langate area when the incident occurred. According to official reports, the weapon went off accidentally, resulting in a single bullet wound that left him seriously wounded.
Following the mishap, the soldier was immediately evacuated to GMC Handwara for emergency medical intervention. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later shifted to the 92 Base Hospital at Badami Bagh Cantonment for advanced specialized treatment; however, despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have officially taken cognizance of the incident, and a formal investigation has been initiated to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accidental firing.
