Anti-Corruption Bureau Traps Naib Tehsildar for Accepting ₹22,000 Bribe in Arwani
ANANTNAG | March 25, 2026In a major crackdown on administrative corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of South Kashmir apprehended a high-ranking revenue official in the Arwani area of Bijbehara today.
The accused, Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, who serves as a Naib Tehsildar and is a resident of Narbal in Budgam district, was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹22,000.
The operation was meticulously planned and executed by a specialized team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Rouf Ahmad, following specific intelligence reports regarding the illegal demand.
The trap operation took place at the Tehsil Office in Arwani, where the ACB team successfully recovered the bribe money on the spot. Immediately following the arrest, the official was taken into custody and transported to Awantipora for further legal proceedings.
The bureau has initiated a formal investigation under the relevant sections of the law to uncover the full extent of the transaction and any potential accomplices. Authorities highlighted that this arrest is part of a broader, intensified campaign to sanitize government offices—particularly the revenue department—from corrupt practices and to ensure transparent public service delivery.
The ACB has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward bribery and urged citizens to come forward and report any such incidents of extortion or malpractice by government employees.
This successful operation underscores the government’s commitment to holding public servants accountable and maintaining the integrity of administrative machinery across the Union Territory.
