Anantnag Police Intensify Anti-Drug Drive; Two Punjab Residents Arrested with Heroin-Like Substance
ANANTNAG, DECEMBER 24, 2025: In a major strike against the narcotics trade, the Anantnag Police intercepted a drug trafficking attempt at the Harnag–Bategoo bypass, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of contraband. Acting on precise intelligence, a specialized police team conducted a targeted search of the suspects, leading to the seizure of approximately 65 grams of a heroin-like substance. The arrested individuals have been identified as Bhupinder Singh and Balbir Chand, both residents of the Gurdaspur district in Punjab.
The duo was taken into custody on the spot, and the illegal substances were confiscated following standard legal protocols.Following the recovery, a formal case has been registered under FIR No. 265/2025 at Police Station Anantnag, invoking relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to trace the origin of the consignment and uncover potential links to a larger trafficking network.
Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy toward the drug menace, the Anantnag Police urged the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing information to help eradicate substance abuse from the region.
