Anantnag Drug Crackdown: Six Peddlers Arrested as Police Seize Large Contraband Haul

ANANTNAG, April 11, 2026 — In a major blow to the regional drug trade, the Anantnag Police have intensified their ongoing offensive against narcotics, resulting in the arrest of six drug peddlers and the recovery of a massive quantity of illicit substances across multiple strategic locations.

During a targeted raid in Shangus, officers apprehended Riyaz Ahmad Sheikh and Aadil Latif after discovering approximately 5.75 kilograms of ganja at a local residence. Parallel operations saw the arrest of Saqib Ahmad Lone at Sangam Chowk with 140 grams of charas, and Reyaz Ahmad Mochi at a checkpoint on Bumzoo KP Road, where he was found in possession of over five kilograms of cannabis powder.

The crackdown continued in Uttrasoo, where a raid at the home of Ajaz Ahmad Lone yielded another 2.225 kilograms of ganja, further dismantling the local distribution network.

The most substantial seizure occurred in Manzigam, where, acting on specific intelligence and a judicial search warrant, police uncovered 17.27 kilograms of crushed charas (bhang bhoosa) concealed in a residential tin shed belonging to Gh. Mohidin Sheikh.

In each instance, the Anantnag Police have registered formal cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act to ensure rigorous legal action against the accused. This series of successful operations underscores the district administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward the drug mafia.

Reaffirming their commitment to a “Nasha Mukt” society, the police department has called upon the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to help eradicate the drug menace from the valley.
