Anantnag Drug Crackdown: Police Arrest Two Peddlers, Seize Large Narcotic Haul
ANANTNAG April 12,2026:- In an intensified effort to eradicate the drug menace from South Kashmir, the Anantnag Police successfully apprehended two drug peddlers and seized a substantial quantity of contraband across multiple operations.
During a routine checkpoint at Gurpora, a police team from PS Bijbehara intercepted Sahil Ahmad Khooru, a resident of Urhanhall. Despite his attempt to evade the authorities, he was apprehended, and a subsequent search led to the recovery of 780 grams of charas.
The crackdown continued in Waghama, where PS Bijbehara officials arrested Aijaz Ahmad Mantoo. Law enforcement recovered 488 grams of charas from his possession, leading to the formal registration of FIR No. 88/2026.
In a separate targeted raid based on specific intelligence, PS Srigufwara searched the premises of Mohd Yaqoob Khan in Village Liver. While the suspect managed to flee before the arrival of the police, officers discovered approximately 6 kilograms of ganja hidden in his cowshed.
Authorities have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest the fleeing suspect. The Anantnag Police have reiterated their commitment to a drug-free society and urged citizens to cooperate by sharing any information regarding narcotics trafficking with law enforcement.
