AMRITSAR, February 12, 2026 — In a significant blow to international drug trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully dismantled a cross-border narco-smuggling network.
During the operation, law enforcement officials apprehended two key operatives and recovered a substantial consignment of 7 kg 630 grams of Heroin. In addition to the narcotics, police seized ₹21,800 in suspected drug proceeds from the accused.Preliminary investigations have uncovered a sophisticated operational structure, revealing that the suspects were in direct contact with a Dubai-based handler via virtual phone numbers.
This overseas handler reportedly facilitated the cross-border transport of heroin and provided specific instructions regarding pickup locations and the management of further supply chains within the region. Notably, this handler has been linked to multiple narcotics networks and a high-profile NDPS case involving the previous recovery of 43 kg of heroin.
Following the seizure, a formal First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Police Station Chheharta, Amritsar, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are currently conducting an intensive follow-up investigation to map out the network’s forward and backward linkages.
The Punjab Police reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling narco-terrorist modules and ensuring a drug-free state through continued strategic crackdowns.
