JAMMU, FEB 07, 2026 — Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, chaired a high-level review meeting in Jammu today to evaluate the status of ongoing development projects across the Union Territory.
Attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the session focused on critical sectors including road infrastructure, power, industry, and digital connectivity via 4G and optical fiber. Highlighting the “unprecedented progress” achieved under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Shah reiterated the central government’s commitment to building a prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. He specifically urged officials to maximize the region’s hydropower potential and ensure 100% saturation of central welfare schemes so that benefits reach every intended recipient.
Beyond infrastructure, the Home Minister emphasized a multi-pronged approach to economic and social growth. He called for aggressive marketing of J&K’s tourism destinations to capitalize on sustained visitor interest and pledged federal support for developing new tourist hubs.
To empower the youth, Shah proposed a ₹200 crore investment in sports infrastructure and academies through engagement with national sports bodies. The meeting also highlighted a significant fiscal milestone: for the first time in the 2025–26 financial year, Jammu & Kashmir has been included in the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, granting it access to 50-year interest-free loans. These initiatives, along with plans to boost the dairy sector via the National Dairy Development Board, underscore the government’s resolve to integrate J&K into the “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision.
