Ajit Pawar Dies in Tragic Plane Crash: Maharashtra Deputy CM and 4 Others died in Baramati Accident
BARAMATI, January 28, 2026: In a devastating aviation accident, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar, along with four others, was killed on Wednesday morning after his chartered aircraft crashed while attempting an emergency landing at Baramati Airport.
The fatal incident occurred as the private plane was coming in to land, resulting in the deaths of Pawar, two pilots, and two of his security personnel. Visuals from the crash site depicted a harrowing scene of scattered wreckage engulfed in flames and thick plumes of smoke.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has officially confirmed the passing of the Deputy Chief Minister following the high-impact crash.The news has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, prompting Baramati MP Supriya Sule to depart Delhi, where she was attending the Parliament Budget session, to return to Maharashtra.
Ajit Pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar, and his son, Parth Pawar, have also rushed to Baramati. In the wake of the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have reached out to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to receive updates and express their condolences regarding the catastrophic event.
