SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 07, 2026: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has formally registered a case against Maeen Azhar Kakroo, the former Tehsildar of South Srinagar, for allegedly abusing his official position to demand and accept bribes.
The case, filed under FIR No. 03/2026 at Police Station ACB Srinagar, invokes Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The charges stem from a detailed verification process concerning illegal land encroachment, restoration, and demarcation issues dating back to 2021 in the Hyderpora area of Srinagar.
Investigation into the matter revealed that the accused public servant allegedly demanded illegal gratification to facilitate the restoration of 14 Marlas of land located at Gulbahar Colony, Hyderpora. Most notably, the verification surfaced claims that a second-hand Mahindra Rexton 4×4 vehicle was accepted as a bribe. Financial trails suggest that payments for this transaction were made by the complainant via a Paytm account linked to J&K Bank, Batamaloo.
The land in question was subsequently sold by the complainant in January 2022 following its official restoration by the revenue office. In a swift follow-up to the FIR, ACB teams executed simultaneous raids at two residential properties linked to Kakroo: one at Kanil Bagh, Azad Road in Baramulla, and another at Rose Avenue Colony, Gazalla Abad HMT in Srinagar.
During these court-authorized searches, investigators seized incriminating evidence, including sensitive revenue records, bank statements, and financial documents. The ACB has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the alleged malpractice and ensure accountability for the abuse of official power.
