Abandoned Newborn Rescued in Udhampur’s Manwal; Police Launch Investigation
UDHAMPUR, MARCH 14, 2026 — A shocking incident of child abandonment came to light in the Thalora Panchayat in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur where a two- to three-day-old infant was discovered hidden in the bushes.
The newborn was found earlier today by a passerby who, upon hearing the child, immediately alerted the local authorities. Responding swiftly to the information, a police team from the Majalta Police Station rushed to the site to rescue the infant and ensure his safety.
Following the rescue, the baby was moved to a nearby medical facility for urgent care. Hospital officials have confirmed that the infant is currently under close observation and is reported to be in stable condition.
The discovery has sparked widespread condemnation from the local community, with residents describing the act as inhumane and calling for the strictest possible legal action against those responsible for endangering the child’s life.
The Udhampur Police have officially registered a case regarding the incident and have initiated a comprehensive investigation.
Officers are currently working to trace the mother and any other individuals involved in abandoning the newborn.
As the investigation remains underway, authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the child’s identity or the circumstances of the abandonment to come forward.
