Omar Abdullah Fulfills Promise, Darbar Move Resumes After Four Years of Halt

Jammu, November 3: The traditional biennial Darbar Move, which was halted in 2021 by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, citing changes to the e-office system to save ₹200 crore annually, has been discontinued.

On October 16, 2025, the new government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah officially reinstated the practice, fulfilling an election promise.Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was warmly welcomed upon his arrival at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu today.

Under the biennial ‘Darbar Move’, the government will operate from the Civil Secretariat in Jammu for the next six months of winter, until the end of April.

It is important to note that the Darbar Move was initiated by Maharaja Gulab Singh in 1872, approximately 147 years ago, for strategic and climatic reasons.
