Jammu, October 27 :- The Centre for Essential Skills (CES), Indian Institute of Technology Jammu, successfully commenced a five-day training program for senior IPS officers from across India, held from October 27–31, 2025. The program, funded by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi, brings together 14 senior IPS officers from across India. It aims to enhance technological expertise in cyber security as part of the ongoing collaboration between IIT Jammu and BPR&D.
The inaugural session, held on October 27, 2025, was graced by Prof. Meenakshi Rajeev, Dean, Skill Development and Outreach, IIT Jammu; Dr. Rajkumar Velu, Associate Dean, Skill Development and CES; Dr. Samaresh Bera, Assistant Professor, IIT Jammu; and Dr. Lakhwinder Singh, Chief Operating Officer, I3C, IIT Jammu.The Centre acknowledges the constant guidance and encouragement of Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur,Director, IIT Jammu, who has been the driving force behind such initiatives at the Institute.
His visionary leadership continues to inspire the Centre’s efforts toward fostering skill development and professional capacity building. Prof. Gaur also interacted with the participating officers during an informal gathering and concluded the inaugural session with a group photograph, marking a warm and memorable beginning to the program.
Throughout the week-long training, the officers will receive hands-on exposure and academic insights in a range of cutting-edge areas, including: Linux/Windows Commands and Tools, Networking, Stacks and Tools, Understanding a Network Packet, Network Security: TLS, VPN, Wi-Fi, Firewall, Security in AI/ML and AI/ML for Security, Database Security I, Applied Cryptography for Cyber Security, Leveraging AGI Models for Data Security and Privacy, Malware Analysis, Security and Privacy, Cloud Security, Email Security, Memory Forensics, Visit to 5G Lab and Campus Immersion.The sessions are being conducted by distinguished experts, including Dr. Samaresh Bera, Dr. Yamuna Prasad, Dr. Suman Banerjee, Dr. Sarada Prasad Gochhayat, Dr. Shaifu Gupta, from IIT Jammu, along with Dr. Arun Balaji Buduru, Associate Professor, IIIT Delhi and Dr. Prajnamay Dass.
Their combined expertise enriches the technical depth of the program.This batch marks the third edition of the program, following the successful first and second batches. The first batch, held from September 18–22, 2025, focused on “Drones and Anti-Drone Technologies” and saw participation from 21 senior police officers. The second batch, conducted from October 6–10, 2025, was centered on “Role of Technology in Crime Prevention: Predictive Policing,” and saw participation of 14 senior police officers with nominations from BPR&D, New Delhi.These training programs exemplify the strong partnership between technological institutions like IIT Jammu and law enforcement agencies. They ensure that officers remain equipped with the latest tools and techniques to address the evolving challenges of modern policing.
