Loader and Transit Passenger Caught with Gold Worth ₹1.61 Crore at Mumbai Airport

MUMBAI, August 10, 2026Central Industrial Security Force personnel stationed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport intercepted a loader and an international transit passenger attempting to smuggle gold valued at approximately ₹1.61 crore.

The incident unfolded when members of the Crime and Intelligence Wing observed suspicious behavior at a smoking zone near the international boarding gate. Intelligence officers spotted a female passenger, who had arrived from Dubai en route to Bangkok, handing a suspicious item concealed inside socks to an airport loader.

Upon questioning, the loader was unable to provide a valid explanation for receiving the package. Security personnel conducted a thorough search of the worker, leading to the recovery of four oval-shaped capsules containing roughly 1,311 grams of suspected smuggled gold. Following the recovery, CISF officials detained both the passenger and the loader.

The suspects, along with the seized gold, have been handed over to the Air Intelligence Unit and Customs authorities for further investigation and necessary legal action.
