SRINAGAR, July 25 — The Food and Drugs Administration of Jammu and Kashmir conducted a special Union Territory-wide enforcement drive to ensure the quality and safety of milk and milk products sold to consumers.
During the operation, food safety teams performed 213 inspections of retail vendors across both Jammu and Kashmir divisions, collecting 170 enforcement samples of loose milk for quality testing at NABL-accredited laboratories.
Officials also lifted 10 additional samples of other high-risk food commodities across districts including Srinagar, Jammu, Anantnag, Kathua, and Baramulla to maintain strict market oversight.During the inspections, regulatory teams penalized three Food Business Operators under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, imposing a total fine of 5,000 rupees for observed violations.
Additionally, authorities issued five improvement notices to businesses to correct sanitary and hygienic deficiencies identified on site. The administration emphasized that milk and dairy products remain high-priority items due to their perishable nature, confirming that similar sampling drives will continue targeting high-risk food items like meat, sweets, and bakery products.
