HYDERABAD, July 25 — The Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, a laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation, has transferred three advanced materials technologies to Steel Authority of India Limited. Under this transfer, the manufacturing technology for DMR-249A and DMR-249BK grade steel billets, which are essential for constructing naval ships and submarines, was handed over to SAIL’s Alloy Steel Plant in Durgapur.
Additionally, the manufacturing technology for DMR-249B steel plates ranging from 8mm to 30mm in thickness, used in specialized naval construction, was transferred to both the Alloy Steel Plant in Durgapur and the Rourkela Steel Plant.
The Licensing Agreement for Transfer of Technology was officially handed over to SAIL by Director General of Naval and Strategic Systems R V Hara Prasad in the presence of DMRL Director R Balamuralikrishnan. This technology transfer to the industrial sector marks a major milestone in enhancing indigenous materials capabilities and self-reliance for strategic defense applications.
