ANANTNAG, JULY 23 — Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, in collaboration with the Emergency Medicine Academy, Manchester (UK), successfully conducted a comprehensive full-day Advanced Trauma Training programme on Thursday. Accredited with four credit hours by the J&K Medical Council, the initiative was organized under the leadership of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Junaid S. Wani and coordinated by the Department of Pediatrics. Aimed at bolstering trauma management and building the foundation for a full-fledged Emergency Medicine Department, the workshop brought together around 60 participants, including faculty members, consultants, medical officers, and resident doctors. Reaffirming the institution’s vision, Dr. Wani highlighted the college’s dedication to clinical excellence and capacity building, while Course Director Dr. Mehdi Hassan and Deputy Course Director Dr. Hamid Zafar assured ongoing technical and academic support from the UK academy to align GMC Anantnag’s emergency services with global standards.
Designed to upgrade practical skill sets, the training focused on the systematic A-to-E trauma assessment and structured primary surveys, alongside interactive case discussions. Participants gained vital hands-on experience in high-level emergency procedures—such as Seldinger and open surgical chest drain insertions, intraosseous (IO) cannulation, eFAST bedside ultrasound scans, and resuscitative thoracostomies—utilizing simulation manikins and tissue models to replicate real-world clinical scenarios. Organizers noted that this milestone event significantly elevates the region’s trauma care capabilities and moves GMC Anantnag a step closer to establishing a specialized, world-class emergency care department.
