JAMMU, JULY 22, 2026 — Responding swiftly to extreme weather conditions across the Jammu region, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF)—under the leadership of Commandant Shri Mohd Aslam, IPS—executed multiple critical rescue and relief missions in seamless coordination with the Jammu & Kashmir Police and civil administration. In Poonch district’s Surankote area, incessant rainfall and severe land subsidence partially damaged six homes and a local school, prompting SDRF teams to successfully evacuate 20 stranded residents, including six women and five children, to safety without any casualties.
Simultaneously, on National Highway 44 in Ramban, an SDRF team responded to a fatal shooting stone incident at Gangroo, Ramsoo, safely extracting four injured passengers from a struck vehicle and transferring them to District Hospital Ramban, while confirming two fatalities. Later in the afternoon, a specialized SDRF unit mobilized to Suhanjina along the swollen Tawi River, safely rescuing two individuals who were trapped by sudden flash flooding. Following these successful operations, disaster management authorities issued an urgent public safety advisory urging citizens to avoid riverbanks, landslide-prone stretches, and flooded zones during ongoing adverse weather.
