SRINAGAR | July 22, 2026 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today convened a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to intensify ongoing flood relief and infrastructure restoration efforts across Jammu & Kashmir following continuous torrential rains and flash floods.
Chaired alongside senior cabinet ministers, administrative secretaries, and district officials, the meeting focused on accelerating time-bound restoration of essential services—particularly power and drinking water—within 24 hours in severely hit areas like Poonch and Rajouri. CM Abdullah directed immediate funding allocations to Deputy Commissioners for rapid rehabilitation, emphasized long-term flood mitigation infrastructure, and ordered uninterrupted relief operations at dedicated camps. Officials reported that joint response teams involving the SDRF, NDRF, Army, and local police remain on high alert.
Across the Kashmir valley, 654 vulnerable villages have been identified, with over 1,500 residents already evacuated to rescue centers, while Jammu division has activated 24/7 Emergency Operation Centres across 363 high-risk locations. Although water levels in the River Jhelum currently remain below warning thresholds, authorities continue round-the-clock monitoring to minimize potential loss of life and property.
