KULGAM, JULY 21 — In response to ongoing inclement weather, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, chaired a high-level review meeting in Kulgam to evaluate the district’s disaster management readiness and flood mitigation strategies. Deputy Commissioner Shahzad Alam kicked off the session by briefing the panel on department-wise emergency plans, rescue protocols, and relief mechanisms. In his address, Garg directed all sectoral officers to maintain peak operational readiness, ensure immediate field team deployment, continuous monitoring of water levels, and precise vulnerability mapping of flood-prone areas.
To safeguard the local population, the Divisional Commissioner emphasized keeping district control rooms fully functional, ensuring uninterrupted public services—including power, water, healthcare, and telecommunications—and maintaining stock of essential commodities. He also urged officials to issue timely public advisories and bolster community awareness to mitigate potential flood risks effectively. Prior to the disaster management review, Garg visited the Mata Kulwagishori Temple at Bungam and the Mata Katyani Temple at Kakran to inspect and finalize logistical arrangements for the upcoming Annual Maha Yagya.
