ANANTNAG, JAMMU & KASHMIR — July 13, 2026: In a major breakthrough for its ongoing crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Anantnag Police successfully secured the conviction of an accused individual involved in a 2023 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case. The Court of the learned Special Judge (NDPS) convicted the accused, identified as Ubaid Amin Bhat, following a comprehensive evaluation of oral, documentary, and scientific evidence presented by the prosecution.
The conviction stems from case FIR No. 81/2023 registered at the Srigufwara Police Station under Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act. During the initial investigation, law enforcement officers intercepted Bhat on a motorcycle and recovered 11 bottles of illicit Codeine Phosphate syrup, which he had concealed inside an apple carton. The prosecution built an airtight case against the accused by presenting reliable witness testimonies, meticulous and lawful seizure proceedings, an unbroken chain of custody, and a conclusive positive report from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
Following the guilty verdict, the court has scheduled a subsequent hearing for July 21, 2026, to argue the quantum of sentence, during which the appropriate legal punishment will be officially determined. Reaffirming their stance after the ruling, the Anantnag Police reiterated their unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the region and ensuring that all individuals involved in narcotics-related offenses face the full force of the law.
