SAMBA, JULY 13— In a major breakthrough under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan (Drug-Free Campaign), the Samba Police have arrested two drug peddlers, including a woman, and seized approximately 20 grams of a heroin-like substance, locally known as Chitta. Operating on reliable intelligence, a police team from the Vijaypur Police Station set up a vehicle checkpoint on the Rakh Barotian-Shiv Nagar link road near Shamshan Ghat. During the operation, officers intercepted an Ertiga car (registration number PB01F-0894) traveling toward Shiv Nagar. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the contraband from the possession of the two occupants.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Mohd Atif and his wife, Salma Sheikh, both residents of Ward No. 17, Shanker Nagar, Udhampur. The police have seized the illicit narcotics alongside the vehicle used in the smuggling attempt. Following the arrests, a formal case (FIR No. 117/2026) has been registered at the Vijaypur Police Station under Sections 8, 21, 22, and 25 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and a comprehensive investigation is now underway. Reaffirming their stance against the narcotics trade, the Samba Police reiterated their unwavering commitment to taking strict legal action against smugglers to eliminate the drug menace and ensure a safer community.
