LEH, LADAKH — July 13, 2026: In a major administrative push to accelerate infrastructure development, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, announced on Monday the creation of several new engineering divisions across the Union Territory’s five newly established districts.
Announcing the reform on the social media platform X, the LG stated that the restructuring includes the approval of seven Public Works Department (PWD) divisions—including five under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)—alongside four new divisions under the Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) departments.
This sweeping administrative reorganization ensures that every district in Ladakh will now host a full, dedicated contingent of engineering staff. By decentralizing engineering works to the district level and aligning these operations directly with the new geographic boundaries, the Union Territory administration aims to eliminate long-standing jurisdictional and administrative bottlenecks. The restructuring is designed to enable seamless project planning and fast-track the execution of critical developmental and public utility schemes, reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing public service delivery and bringing governance straight to the doorsteps of Ladakh’s citizens.
